The Reiki symbols have 4 parts :
1. The symbol
2. The Japanese name
3. English translation
4. A pledge or a promise
The last component is your intent or wish. It is very important to make sure that your intent should not be contradicting the promise of the symbol, if that happens the symbols might not act upon your intent.
The symbols act as tools in your journey, whatever it is you are focusing in your life at that moment. It can be somthing as simple as reaching a destination in the real world, learning a new skill or journey to your life purpose.
The symbols also act as a channel for you to connect and access the energetic forces of the universe easily and consistently.
It is very important to know how and why the symbols work because it will help us to avoid making mistakes in the symbols on a conscious level. Most of the practices belive in the concept of Let go, let God, and Reiki seems to be made to work like that. The basic understanding of the blue print of the symbols will help us to use the symbols better and respect them.
The symbols are taught to be used in a particular sequence, but they seems to work in any fashion you apply them. The order of the symbols will help in focusing the energy of your intention.
If the mental emotional symbol is used first, the focus is first given time improving the mental attitudes and emotional attitudes of life. When the power symbol is used after the ME symbol, it makes the ME a royal command.
If the distance symbol is used first, it sends the power to all the ten directions, and if the master symbols is used first focus is given to balance integration and enlightenment.
I believe that the master symbol can be used before meditations, it might be helpful to sit on the master symbol and to draw a pyramid around you when meditating. This will help you to be grounded and empower your root chakra and kundalini.
The four Reiki chakras are part of the 8 sacret Buddhist symbols found at the foot of the statue of the healing Buddha in Yakushiji in Japan.
